Por vs Para Practice (and Other Spanish Prepositions)
Por vs para practice: 25 sentences where English says "for" and Spanish has to choose. Pick por or para, hear the whole sentence and read why it's that one.
How this works
Para looks ahead: a goal, a destination, a deadline, the person something is for. Por looks back or through: a reason, a route, a means, an exchange, a stretch of time.
A second set practices the other little words: a or en, al and del, and the personal a. Below the exercise: a por vs para worksheet with answers you can print.
Por vs para practice: rules at a glance

The full explanation, with the fixed expressions (por fin, por supuesto, para siempre), is in the lesson Por vs para in Spanish.

Por vs para and Spanish prepositions: common questions
What is the difference between por and para?
Para points to a goal, a destination, the person something is for, and a deadline (es para ti, para el lunes). Por points to a reason, a route, a means and an exchange (por la lluvia, por teléfono, gracias por todo). English uses "for" in many of these, so don't translate word for word.
Is it voy a casa or voy en casa?
Voy a casa. Going, arriving and coming back take a. En is for where you already are: estoy en casa.
Is it gracias por or gracias para?
Always gracias por: gracias por todo, gracias por venir. You thank someone because of something, and cause takes por. Gracias para is a classic English-speaker mistake, because "thanks for" pulls you toward para.
