Who I am
I'm not a celebrity or an influencer. I'm a Spanish teacher whose mission is to help as many people as possible speak Spanish and do the things they want to do with it: travel, work, talk to family, or simply understand the song that's been stuck in their head.
I have a degree in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Brasília (UnB) and I've been teaching Spanish for more than ten years, first to private students and then online, through my Portuguese-language site for Brazilians, Espanhol Sem Fronteiras. Spanish Without Borders is the same work, now in English.
How I started
I started learning Spanish when I was eleven, at a public language school in Brasília. It happened almost by accident: the school offered English, French and Spanish, the English classes filled up fast, and my parents signed me up for Spanish. I fell in love with it.
One of my teachers used to tell us that Spanish would be needed everywhere, and that we would be the teachers of the future. She was right. I had private students before I even graduated, and that's when I started discovering what makes people learn faster.
How I teach
I learned Spanish the way most schools teach it: grammar on top of grammar. It works, slowly. With my students I saw something else: when I explained things lightly, using what they already knew from their own language and giving them lots of real Spanish to hear, they learned much faster.
My rule is simple: learn a language by using the language. Grammar matters, and I love it, but it should help you understand what you hear, not replace it. I used the same approach to learn English myself.
That's why everything here starts with sound. You can hear every form of every verb in the conjugator, and a dozen of the most common ones come with short clips of native speakers using them. The exercises use real sentences and correct you on the spot, so you learn from the mistake while it's fresh.
What you find here
- The Spanish conjugator: 710 verbs, every tense, with audio for each form, example sentences and, for a dozen of the most common verbs, clips of native speakers from Mexico, Spain, Argentina and other countries.
- Exercises: conjugation drills, dictation and vocabulary practice that tell you what you got wrong and why.
- A free level test: find out where you are, from A1 to C2, and what to work on first.
Lessons, materials and a members' practice area are on the way. If something here helped you, or if something is missing, write to me at [email protected]. I read every message.
¡Nos vemos!
