What data we collect
Data you give us. When you ask for a material, join a newsletter or a waiting list, or ask to receive your level test result, we ask for your e-mail address and, sometimes, your name.
Level test. If you choose to receive your result, we keep it (level, score in each skill and the points to work on) to send it to you and suggest what to study next.
Practice tools. The conjugator and the exercises save your progress (for example, the verbs you get wrong most often) only in your own browser. We don’t receive it.
Browsing data. We use cookies and similar technologies from Google (Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics). They record data such as IP address, approximate location, where the visit came from (a link or an ad, for example), browser and device type, pages visited and time on the page.
Advertising. This site may show ads served by Google. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google’s Ads Settings and learn more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services. Visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom are asked for consent before any personalized ads are shown.
How we use your data
- To send the material, result or information you asked for.
- To send study content and news about new materials and courses, when you sign up for them.
- To answer your messages.
- To measure visits, understand which content helps the most and keep the site free through advertising.
Download and test data may be turned into statistics, always without identifying anyone.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell, rent or give away your data. It is shared only with the services that make the site and our e-mails work, and only for those purposes:
- app.smart, Smart²’s system where contacts are stored and e-mails are sent from;
- Amazon Web Services, which delivers the e-mails;
- Google, for the measurement and advertising tools described above;
- hosting and network companies, such as Cloudflare, that keep the site online.
Some of these services store data on servers in other countries, such as the United States, Brazil and countries in Europe. These transfers follow the safeguards required by the applicable data protection laws.
Data may also be disclosed when required by a court order or by law.
Cookies and how to refuse them
When you first visit the site, a cookie notice appears. You can refuse measurement and advertising cookies right there. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
YouTube videos only load when you click on them. From that click on, YouTube’s privacy rules apply.
How to stop receiving messages
- E-mail: every e-mail has an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom. Click it and you leave the list immediately.
- In writing: send an e-mail to [email protected].
How long we keep your data
We keep your data while you are subscribed to a list or while it is needed for the purposes in this policy. After that it is deleted or anonymized, except for what the law requires us to keep.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, data protection laws such as the GDPR (European Union), the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and Brazil’s LGPD give you rights over your data. Wherever you are, you can ask us at any time to:
- confirm whether we process your data and give you access to it;
- correct incomplete or outdated data;
- delete your data;
- tell you who it has been shared with;
- withdraw your consent, or object to processing based on our legitimate interest.
We process your data based on your consent (when you fill in a form), on our legitimate interest in measuring and improving the site (you can always refuse in the cookie notice) and on legal obligations, when they apply. We don’t sell personal information as defined by the CCPA.
To exercise any of these rights, write to [email protected]. We answer within 15 days. You may also file a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Security
The site uses a secure connection (HTTPS), access to data is restricted and our providers follow good security practices. No system is completely immune to attacks. If an incident could put you at risk, we will let you and the competent authority know, as the law requires.
Children
Our forms are meant for people aged 18 or over. Younger learners can use the site with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date of the last update is at the top of the page. Before using your data for purposes not described here, we will ask for your permission.
