How do you say it in Spanish?

    What you need to know

    • Months and seasons are written in lowercase in Spanish, unlike English: enero, septiembre, el verano.
    • A date takes el before the day and de between the numbers, with the day first: el 3 de noviembre de 2026. A month on its own takes en (en enero).
    • Spain and Mexico have the same seasons as the US, but the Southern Hemisphere is the other way around: in December it is invierno in Madrid and verano in Buenos Aires.

    Months in Spanish: common questions

    Is it septiembre or setiembre?

Both are correct. The Real Academia Española says septiembre is the preferred form in most countries, and setiembre is the more common one in Uruguay, Peru, Paraguay and Costa Rica.

Are the months capitalized in Spanish?

No. Months, days of the week and seasons are lowercase, even though English capitalizes months and days: hoy es lunes, 3 de noviembre. They only get a capital letter when they are part of a name, like Feria de Abril.

How do I ask for the date in Spanish?

¿Qué fecha es hoy? or ¿A cuántos estamos?. The answer is hoy es 3 de noviembre or estamos a 3 de noviembre. Notice the day comes before the month, so 3/11 in Spanish means November 3.
