    Remember

To say something exists, Spanish uses hay (there is, there are), which never changes: hay un problema, hay muchas personas. Otherwise, haber is the helping verb for the perfect tenses: he comido is “I have eaten” or “I ate.”

    Watch out

Hay means both “there is” and “there are,” and it never goes plural: hay dos libros. And “I have a car” is tengo un carro; haber only helps other verbs, as in he comido.
