    Remember

Despertarse (to wake up) in the present: me despierto, te despiertas, se despierta, nos despertamos, se despiertan; with vos, te despertás. Preterite: me desperté, te despertaste, se despertó.

    Watch out

On its own, despertar is waking someone else: despierto a los niños a las siete. When you wake up, it's despertarse: me despierto temprano. Telling a friend “wake up!” is ¡despiértate!, and in Argentina ¡despertate!.

    Examples with despertar

Me despierto a las seis todos los días.

I wake up at six every day.

    Mexico

    ¿A qué hora te despertaste?

What time did you wake up?

    Colombia

    No despiertes al bebé.

    Don't wake the baby.
